Today I’d like to introduce Madilynn Dale

Tell me about yourself. What inspired you to write?

I have always been an avid reader and creative. I’ve loved letting my imagination wander over the years and occasionally would write something down. I never completed a full out novel though. When I was pregnant and following, I went through a lot of depression, anxiety, and other emotions. It was a crazy time for me and full of learning, but it was hard. Writing became an outlet for me, and my stories came alive. I loved seeing my own thoughts and ideas spill out across the page. It brought me to publish my first book.

Describe your desk / writing space.

My writing space is a little chaotic honestly. I get it organized and it falls into chaos shortly after. It’s a shared space with my husband most of the time. I have a laptop I can move around with to write on but find myself the most productive at the desktop computer. Its tucked next to a huge window in my bedroom so I get natural light when writing in the day and can see some of the stars at night. I also have art by various artists hanging around the desk with story notes on the wall.

Do you have a writing routine or do you write when inspired?

I did have a routine until my son came home full time for the summer. Now I mostly write at night when he’s asleep and occasionally during the day when I can squeeze in some sprints.

What was the hardest scene for you to write? Which scene was your favorite to write?

This is a tough question. I think any of the hardest scenes for me to write are where I kill off one of the characters. Many of the ones who I kill off have a ton of importance to the main character or characters and I have to take breaks when making the scene. It makes me emotional but in order for the story to move forward sometimes it needs to be done.

What are you working on next?

I have a ton of things that are a WIP. I have several ongoing Vella stories, I’m finishing up two short stories for different anthologies, and I’m finishing the second book in the Ember Trilogy.

What authors or books have influenced your writing?

Ivy Asher is one that has influenced my writing as well as Sarah J Maas. I love reading their work and seeing how they tie in fantasy with romance. I devour everything I read from them.

How do you come up with the title to your books?

This is one of the hardest things for me. I normally get the story idea before I get the title. When I do sit down to come up with a title, I like to pull something from the story. Very rarely will a title hit me before the story.

What inspired your book/series?

I get inspiration from various places. A lot of things come from dreams and my love for things paranormal and fantasy.

Who is your favorite character from your book and would you get along?

My favorite character as of late is Ember, she’s first introduced in my book Black Flames. The trilogy follows her as she takes back her power and finds her place in the universe. It’s an empowering urban fantasy story.

If you could live anywhere, in this world or fantasy, where would you live?

Honestly, I would live in my book’s version of Hell. It’s a world of second chances and not the Christian view of hell that I grew up with. It’s another version of what earth looks like but better. No pollution and less chaos.

What is your favorite meal?

My favorite meal is lunch or mostly just French fries. They have always been my favorite and go to comfort food. Add bacon and cheese to them with a side of ranch and I’m sold!

Coffee or tea? Wine or beer?

Definitely Coffee! I’m a bit of a coffee junkie. I will drink wine on occasion, preferably a merlot of cab.

Describe yourself in three words.

Bubbly, loyal, creative
